Some images from my 2003 trip to Yellowstone area. Journalism, not great art.....

Montana had a few Aspen groves still in color. I enjoy these in that I was able to use the yellow of leaves as the background.

Overview of Norris Gyser Basin. This is why the Native Americans called it "Land of 10,000 smokes".
Same area, just before sunrise. The "clouds" are steam from the guysers.
A hot spring with bubble of steam just bursting out.
The Splash
Spectrum of colors exist in the hot springs due to both mineral deposits and various bacteria mats.

Burned and spared forest, morning fog clearing.
Frozen pond, before sunrise.
Even 10 years after the fire, some areas remain barren. The Fire sterilized the dirt to depth of nearly a foot, thus removing any organic matter from it
Creek from a warm spring supports multible types of grass. Done as a soft focus image.

Critters
Rutting season. This 6 point Elk was wearing himself out trying to keep his harem of ~20 females together, and chasing off competition.

As soon as an animal is visible from the road, a crowd gathers, and usually a traffic jam also.
Coyote; Had to photograph this guy through the windshield. As soon as one gets out of car, they run off, fast. The re-introduction of wolves has cut into the coyote population severely. They are becoming rare in yellowstone.
Saw one Pronghorn Antelope, but he wouldn't let me get close. was in a hurry to get to the other side of the hill.
Buffalo are nearly everwhere, though total population about 25% of what it was before the 1992? fires. They were getting to be a dangerous pest.
Buffalo are difficult to photograph. One can see how dark they are compared with the landscape. Have yet to make a "good" image using them; one that is more than "this is what buffalo look like".
Ground Squirrl. ( "chipmunks" have short tails)
This fellow found someone's dropped lunch; took 3 bites, then ran off to hide it in his burrow for winter.
